The Odyssey reached the edge of the galaxy, where the stars grew thin and the darkness loomed. Captain Elena Vasquez stood on the bridge, her eyes on the viewscreen.

"Command, this is Vasquez. We've reached the galactic barrier."

"Copy, Odyssey. What do you see?"

"Nothing. And everything."

Kaelen appeared beside her. "Beyond this barrier lies the void-the space between galaxies. The First Ones never crossed it."

"Then we will."

The Odyssey pushed through the barrier, its hull straining. The void was empty, silent, cold.

But the sensors picked up a signal-faint, rhythmic, artificial.

"Take us closer."

The source was a structure-a massive ring, pulsing with blue light.

"It's a gate," Kaelen said. "But where does it lead?"

"We need to find out."

The Odyssey slipped through the gate, emerging in a galaxy of swirling colors. The stars were young, the planets newly formed.

"This is a nursery," the Builder said. "A place where galaxies are born."

Elena looked at the new stars, at the future they represented.

"We are witnessing creation," she said.

"Yes," Kaelen replied. "And we are part of it."

The Odyssey returned through the gate, carrying the memory of new worlds.

The universe was vast.

And full of wonders.

The end.

The observation post was a hole in the ground, camouflaged with netting and brush. Sergeant Mike Chen lay prone beside Reyes, their rifles aimed at the village below. Three days they'd been here, watching, waiting, reporting.

"Anything?" Reyes whispered.

Mike shook his head. The village was quiet-too quiet. The usual morning activity hadn't happened. No market. No children. Just old men sitting in doorways, watching the hills.

"They know we're here," Mike said.

Reyes shifted, uncomfortable. "Then why haven't they moved?"

That was the question. The intel said a weapons shipment was coming through this valley. The village was the only place to hide it. The enemy knew the Americans were watching. So why weren't they moving the shipment?

Mike studied the village through his scope. The old men. The empty streets. The shuttered shops.

"They're waiting for something," he said. "Something bigger."

The radio crackled. Williams's voice, from the other OP. "Sarge, we've got movement. North ridge. Vehicles."

Mike swung his scope toward the ridge. Dust. Vehicles. Three trucks, maybe more.

"There's your shipment," Reyes said.

But Mike was looking at the village. The old men were gone. The doors were closing. The streets were emptying.

"They're not coming to the village," he said. "They're going around. Through the pass."

Reyes cursed. "We can't hit them from here. They'll be out of range in five minutes."

Mike was already on the radio. "Command, this is OP Alpha. We have enemy vehicles moving north through the pass. Request immediate air support."
