हंटिंग्टन के अनुसार, मानव भूगोल भौगोलिक वातावरण और मानव के कार्यकलापों एवं गुणों के संबंध के स्वरूप और वितरण का अध्ययन है।
एलन सी. सेंपल के अनुसार, मानव भूगोल अस्थिर पृथ्वी और क्रियाशील मानव के बीच परिवर्तनशील संबंधों का अध्ययन है।
जीन ब्रून्श के अनुसार, मानव भूगोल उन सभी वस्तुओं का अध्ययन है जो मानव कार्यकलापों द्वारा प्रभावित है और जो हमारी पृथ्वी के धरातलीय पदार्थों की एक बिशेष श्रेणी में देखे जा सकते हैं।
अत: मानव भूगोल एक दर्शनशास्त्र के समान है। मनुष्य की विचारधारा और जीवन दर्शन पर किसी स्थान की भौगोलिक परिस्थितियों का गहरा प्रभाव पड़ता है। मानव भूगोल मनुष्य तथा उस पर वातावरण के प्रभाव का ही अध्ययन है।मानव भूगोल का विषय क्षेत्र - मानव भूगोल का क्षेत्र बहुत ही विस्तृत तथा व्यापक है। इसमें मनुष्य की आर्थिक क्रियाओं के अतिरिक्त मनुष्य की और भी क्रियाएँ: जैसे जनसंख्या और उसका वितरण, नगर व उनका आकार तथा प्रकार, मनुष्य की संस्कृति आदि सम्मिलित हैं। वास्तव में आर्थिक भूगोल केवल विस्तृत मानव भूगोल का ही एक अंग है। मानव क्रियाएँ जो भौगोलिक वातावरण के परिणामस्वरूप उत्पन्न होती हैं, अनेक प्रकार की हैं। इनमें से प्रमुख निम्नलिखित हैं-
जनसंख्या: वितरण एवं घनत्व,
मकान: उनके प्रकार तथा बनावट,
मानव अधिवास: ग्रामीण बस्तियाँ, नगरीय बस्तियाँ,
मानवीय अर्थव्यवस्था: आखेट, पशुपालन, कृषि, खनन, उद्योग-धंधे, आवागमन के साधन ।
मानव भूगोल के अंतर्गत व्यक्तिगत दृष्टिकोण को सामाजिक दृष्टिकोण का रूप दिया जा रहा है। विभिन्न प्रकार के लोगों की संस्कृति को समझने के लिए मानव भूगोल का ही सहारा लिया जाता है। तकनीकी विकास के साथ मनुष्य और पर्यावरण के संबंधों में बदलाव आ रहा है। इसलिए मानव भूगोल की विषय-वस्तु में भी समय के साथ-साथ व्यापक विस्तार हो रहा है। आज मानव भूगोल के अंतर्गत नई समस्याओं और चुनौतियों का अध्ययन भी किया जाने लगा है।

दोनों ही एक ईश्वर में विश्वास रखते थे। उनके अनुसार अल्लाह एक मात्र ईश्वर हैं जो सर्वोच्च, शक्तिशाली अथवा सर्वव्यापक हैं।
दोनों ही अल्लाह के समुख पूर्ण आत्मसमर्पण पर बल देते थे।
इनकी एक-रूपता इस बात में भी थी ये दोनों सूफी आंदोलनों से थे।
अंतर:
बा-शरीआ सूफी सन्त ख़ानक़ाहो में रहते थे। खानकाह एक फ़ारसी शब्द है, जिसका अर्थ है-आश्रम। जबकि बे-शरीआ सूफी संत ख़ानक़ाह का तिरस्कार करके रहस्यवादी एवं फ़कीर की जिन्दगी व्यतीत करते थे।
बा-शरीआ सिलसिले शरीआ का पालन करते थे, किन्तु बे-शरीआ शरीआ में बँधे हुए नहीं थे।
